The various acts passed as part of the Reconstruction Acts of 1867 were very important. All together they ensured that all African Americans would have basic rights. This is the first step to rebuilding the Union. However, just because these laws were made, didn't mean people wold follow them. African Americans citizens would still have an uphill fight for many years.
